If you install this new version you will see a line that says, "Uncomment next line to change background color to a softer grey". Uncomment line and background won't be blue anymore. If you have smaller page layouts the new UI isn't bad at all but if you have large page layouts, which we do (unfortunately), the massive amount of white space is overwhelming to some. @Jenna Baze
