Scott,

I've updated the code here, http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/71745 . If you install this new version you will see a line that says, "Uncomment next line to change background color to a softer grey". Uncomment line and background won't be blue anymore.

This only changes the background. The blue header is using images so it's a not as simple to fix as tweaking the css.

I have a user who doesn't like the shade of blue used in the new UI. I don't know Greasemonkey but am supposing it would be easy to tweak the colour using a tweak to the Awesomesauce script?...

<a href="#comment-646" rel="nofollow">@Jenna Baze </a>
It sort of depends. If you have smaller page layouts the new UI isn't bad at all but if you have large page layouts, which we do (unfortunately), the massive amount of white space is overwhelming to some.

Jason: Looks good, although I must admit I am adjusting to the new UI. But, still good to have as a resource.

Nice one Jason! Installed the component on both Firefox and Chrome with no issues; I think it's great to use Greasemonkey to prototype changes to the UI. Look forward to further updates :)
